Are you dreaming of a country house for your big day? This Downton Abbey themed wedding provides some fabulous inspiration!
A beautiful wedding day – but without the drama please! I was delighted to create floral designs for this Downton Abbey themed wedding photoshoot. I love a country house. So as you can imagine, a day at The Hawkills, was just my cup of tea!
The Hawkills is a beautiful country house venue near York. And because this shoot looks so wonderful, it’s not surprise that it is featured on the Belle Bridal blog.
The brief was to create a 1940s, vintage look with a timeless, English feel. Echoes of the romance featured in the Downton Abbey TV show were definitely the order of the day. For couples wanting to recreate a Downton Abbey themed wedding, this shoot certainly has all the inspiration you need.
Whites, blues and greenery
A colour palette of blues, white and gold is a bit of a challenging for a florist. Mother Nature didn’t create many blue flowers. And certainly not in Spring when this shoot took place! As you can imagine, this required lots of creative thinking!
However, despite the challenge, I sourced some stunning, I mean really stunning, light purpley-blue anemones. I teamed them with fabulously fluffy white hydrangeas and blue eryngium for the bride’s bouquet. You can also see the delicate blue forget me nots that pop up in between. I wanted some lightness and delicacy to the bridal bouquet; therefore these worked well.
Country house flowers
For the wedding breakfast tables, I created a dramatic, tall centrepiece. So this would tie in with the colour scheme, I chose purple / blue delphinium, white lisianthus and lots of lush, fluffy greenery. In addition, the groom had two buttonholes to wear. Because why not! One featured blue eryngium, hydrangea and greenery. Secondly, the other included one of the stunning anemones, hydrangea and greenery. The white hydrangea really frames the flowers and therefore this set them off against his navy suit.
The Hawkills is a perfect country house venue. For instance, the interiors are amazing and include a lovely bridal suite upstairs for getting ready in. The grounds feature a walled garden – so you can imagine, how heavenly this was for me! All the locations were perfect for the Downton Abbey themed wedding. What an honour to create floral designs for this delightful venue!
